Tuesday, February 19th has been set for the February General Meeting and on this occasion we have invited Collette Vacations back to again present their slide show on the wonderful vacation packages they offer at a discount to FSNA members. Beginning in late 2007, the company initiated a cross-Canada program for FSNA members. The idea is to bring FSNA members from all provinces together on a single vacation tour, so that when you sign up, you will be traveling with other FSNA members from all parts of the country. If you don't know what Collette Vacations has to offer, and you are thinking about taking that special trip to celebrate an anniversary or other big event, or if you just like to daydream about far away places, you won't want to miss this presentation. You can also learn more about Collette Vacations by going to page 18 in your recent (Fall 2007) issue of the ON GUARD. A notice to members in Woodstock. We are looking for one or more persons to be our contact for Woodstock and area as part of our "Outreach Program" to let our Woodstock members take a more active interest in what the FSNA is doing and offering. The job would include such things as finding a place for occasional meetings and letting us know what the members are doing in and around Woodstock. Just call 519-439-3762 for more information. Maple Syrup Festival and the Fiddle and Stop – Take your first step into spring with this exciting bus trip to Belmore and Wingham for wonderful food and entertainment! It all takes place this year on Saturday, April 12th. Already more than a dozen members and friends have reserved seats and we are hoping to rent our own bus - just for FSNA members. The cost is only $60 per person for members, $65 for guests, and that covers your bus trip, your pancake breakfast and the Fiddle and Step show. This is a well-attended annual event held in Belmore and Wingham and those who went last year enjoyed the pancakes and the music so much that some will be going again. However it is necessary to make a commitment to ensure your seat on the bus, so if you are interested please call 519-439-3762 as soon as possible. Closing date is Tuesday, February 5th.". Pension Surplus Trial Verdict – Pursuant to the unfavourable verdict rendered by Justice Panet in late November 2007, FSNA's National Board of Directors has decided to file a Notice of Appeal. However, the Ontario Court of Appeal will probably not be able to hear our appeal before January 1, 2009. Further detailed information about the appeal should become available to our members after the actual appeal documents are filed. Branch Annual General Meeting – The bylaws of the FSNA stipulate that branches re required to conduct an Annual General Meeting not later than May 1 of each year. In order to bring more accurate and up-to-date financial information to the General Meeting, London branch has set the date for our Annual General Meeting as Tuesday, April 15. Elections for the new executive for 2008/2009 will also be held at this meeting. Any London branch Regular member in good standing is eligible – and encouraged - to run for office. Contact any member of the current executive if you need more information. New Telephone number for MEDOC – Johnson Inc has set up a new, toll-free number that you can call for MEDOC rates and service. It is 1-866-606-3362. This new number should provide our members with better service from all Johnson offices across Canada. Other Johnson Inc. toll-free numbers that you can use are: for Long-term Care Insurance 1-877-582-7526; for Home and Auto Insurance: 1-800-563-0677. You can also get information about Johnson FSNA insurance programs or to find their local office on the internet at: www.johnson.ca/fsna. Dollars for Scholars – London branch has set up a new Bursary Committee to provide financial assistance to those of our members who wish to take courses to upgrade their skills in academic, technical or similar fields of interest. Application forms and more information are available by calling the branch at 519-439-3762 or contacting any of our executive. Bereavement Committee – From time to time the spouse or family of a member who has passed away will contact the branch to ask what documentation is required or what needs to be done. Often this is a time of great stress for the spouse or partner of the deceased when a number of difficult tasks are necessary. The executive is pleased to announce that Roger West has agreed to act as chairperson of this committee. He can be contacted through the branch phone number at 519-439-3762 at any time. All dealings with the Bereavement Committee are on a strictly confidential basis. |
